HYCU Hits Another Milestone with Support for AWS New High Performance Amazon S3 Express One Zone Storage Class

December 13, 2023

HYCU achieved a number of milestone at AWS re:Invent 2023, the most celebrated IT event in years. One significant milestone was our support for AWS’s new high-performance Amazon S3 Express One Zone storage class!  If you are wondering why, let me give you some context behind it.

With Amazon S3, AWS was a pioneer in finding a way to create storage that was durable, secure, performant, and designed for virtually unlimited scalability for the web. Today, when people build modern applications, the first thing they think of is how to build at scale, and one of the top choices for storage is Amazon S3. As customers expand from using S3 for general web applications and into analytics, machine learning, and AI, they need a storage solution that provides improved performance and reduced storage latency.

With the introduction of S3 Express One Zone, AWS has addressed the need for a high-performance storage class. S3 Express One Zone provides single-digit millisecond first byte latency for compute-intensive applications, drives down query times, and can improve data access speeds by 10x and reduce request costs by 50% compared to S3 Standard. While you have always been able to choose a specific AWS Region to store your S3 data, with S3 Express One Zone you can now select a specific AWS Availability Zone within an AWS Region to store your data. You can choose to co-locate your storage and compute resources in the same Availability Zone to further optimize performance, which helps lower compute costs and run workloads faster.

Losing data in any storage class can be disruptive. Customers want to avoid downtime, caused either by accidental user errors, rogue application behavior, or even bad actors, for their applications.

At HYCU, the announcement AWS made at AWS re:Invent 2023 was really exciting. All of us at HYCU are proud to be one of the first solution providers to support this new storage class and in turn help protect customers’ performance-critical applications. Customers can protect their single-Availability Zone Amazon S3 Express One Zone objects to Regional Amazon S3 Standard buckets and de-risk their applications. They can do granular recovery from individual objects to S3 directory buckets. In case of a disaster, customers can also recover in a totally different AWS Region. These are all incredibly important options to enhance data protection.

In addition to all of this, we are excited that we will be able to support customers who want to use this high-performance storage class for SaaS, PaaS, and DBaaS applications that require high-speed recovery.

Personally, the best part about all of this, is that this is a continuation of HYCU’s journey in making sure we are in the forefront of innovation helping customers protect their applications right from build to release to production. AWS has a large number of services, and we are happy to support all of the business-critical AWS services customers use in their applications. For us, the icing on the cake, with HYCU R-Graph, our free data estate discovery and visualization tool that allows customers to visualize their entire data landscape, including all of the AWS services they use!
